Outright Gifts from your IRA

If you are 70 ½ or older you may make gifts totaling up to $100,000 a year directly from your IRA to qualified charities.

The benefits of making a gift to Amherst College this way include:

  • Satisfies the required minimum distribution but is not included in taxable income.
  • Avoids income tax on IRA withdrawals.
  • Supports the important work of Amherst with a tax-free gift.

HOW TO DO IT:
 
Contact your IRA administrator. They may have specific instructions for you.
 
Your administrator should make a check payable to the Trustees of Amherst College, and mail it to:
