A note from Investment Committee Chair Simon Krinksy ’96 on Charitable Trusts:

The Amherst College Endowment is actually part of a modestly larger investment pool that includes the Endowment for the Folger Shakespeare Library, some longer-term operating reserves, and a number of Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs) created by our alumni and parents.  I am deeply biased as an alumni, alumni spouse, a Trustee and the Investment Committee chair, but I believe Charitable Remainder Trusts are an under-utilized form of estate planning, an interesting portfolio diversifier, and a great way to give back to Amherst! Read Simon's full comments here

What does Amherst mean to you?

The answer might lie in the lightbulb moments you had in the classroom of a favorite professor. Or the friendships that have enriched your social life—and perhaps your professional one—for 10, 20, 30, or more years. Or the thrill of personal achievement on the stage or the field. Or the beauty of a full moon rising over the Holyoke Range.

You can honor your meaningful moments with a gift that lives through time. Planned gifts take many forms, but each one lets you prioritize Amherst in advance—providing scholarships for students of talent and promise, sustaining a faculty of leading scholars for whom teaching is a calling and an art, and creating transformational facilities and spaces that showcase and celebrate the rigor, accomplishment, and community for which Amherst is known.

Planned giving pays it forward but can also benefit you in the here and now. Gifts through your estate, gifts that pay you income, and other types of planned gifts support Amherst while delivering financial and tax benefits to you and your family.

What lives in your memory? Let that moment of personal significance guide your gift. Explore ideas. Be creative. Find inspiration in the gifts of other donors, and contact our team for more information when you’re ready. We look forward to helping you write the next chapter of your Amherst story.

Thank you,
